As we wrap up another school year in SD62, we want to speak with sincere appreciation. This year was not easy. Workloads increased, student needs continued to grow, and many days required extraordinary patience, flexibility, and commitment. Through it all, you showed up. You supported students, supported one another, and helped keep this district moving forward with compassion and professionalism.
Facilities teams kept buildings operating safely and efficiently. You repaired what was broken, responded to emergencies at all hours, maintained comfortable learning environments, and ensured school grounds were ready to welcome students. Our Fleet Mechanics kept district vehicles on the road, maintaining safety standards and supporting safe operations. Much of your work happens behind the scenes, but it is deeply valued and appreciated.
To our bus drivers and Transportation staff: you were often the first and last friendly faces students saw each day. You kept students safe on the road through challenging weather, tight schedules, and ongoing route changes.
Clerical staff held schools together every day. You managed calls, paperwork, families, schedules, and countless unexpected situations—often all at once—and you did so with calm professionalism and grace.
Student support teams were steady hands and caring hearts for the students who needed you most. You supported learning, behavior, emotions, and everything in between with patience, skill, and compassion.
Custodial teams kept our schools clean, safe, and healthy. Your work is essential, and it is reflected in every hallway, classroom, and shared space.
IT and technology support staff kept the district connected, resolving problems large and small, often before others even knew there was an issue.
And to every other member who contributes in ways both visible and unseen: thank you.
We saw you step up in ways that often go unnoticed: covering for short-staffed teams, calming anxious students, navigating constant change, and doing the quiet, essential work that keeps schools running. We also saw you stand together, advocating for safer workplaces, fair treatment, and the respect every worker deserves. Your voices mattered this year, and they made a difference.
As your union, we have been right there with you. Some wins were visible, while others happened behind the scenes, but every step forward came from our collective strength. We are not done. We will continue to push forward, show up, and ensure your rights and well-being remain at the center of every bargaining conversation with the district.
Now, as summer begins, we hope you truly take time for yourself.
Rest, breathe, and spend time with the people and activities that fill your cup. You have earned every moment of it.
For those who continue working over the summer, we hope you are still able to find time outside of work to rest and recharge. September will arrive before we know it, and together we will begin again.
