WELCOME BACK
CUPE 459 would like to welcome you back to a new School Year. We will be having our General Meeting on September 18th at Royal Bay in person.
CUPE LOCAL 459 IS BACK SEPT 2021
The Government of Canada is committed to reconciliation and ensuring that the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools is never forgotten.
As you may be aware, the government recently passed legislation to make September 30th a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Like all Canadians, this day provides an opportunity for each public servant to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. This may present itself as a day of quiet reflection or participation in a community event.

CUPE 459 Elected Positions 2021 – Updated January 12th
December 10, 2020
Attention all CUPE 459 members,
The CUPE 459 TECH Team has been working to ensure that Saturdays meeting conforms to the Bylaws of CUPE National and the Local.
Unfortunately, the Team is unable to conduct a secure secret ballot type vote which would be in compliance with our Bylaws on the ZOOM platform for this Saturday’s meeting.
As President of the Local it is my responsibility to ensure transparency and continuity of our Bylaw language. With guidance from our National Representative, an Emergency Executive meeting was held last night to discuss the issues that we are facing.
The following motion came from the Executive to decide on what the next steps will be.
MOTION by Bruce Woodcock: To continue the ZOOM meeting on Saturday and use the ZOOM platform to conduct the nominations for the departmental positions of Shop Stewards, Pro D, District Health & Safety, Sick & Visiting, Job Evaluation, as well as a Trustee and Sergeant at Arms that are up for election and if there is more than one person running for those positions an election will take place at later date using an alternative platform such as Simply Voting. Seconded by Betty Lou Leslie
This vote was carried unanimously by your Executive Board.
This will be discussed and more details about how to vote will occur will be provided, prior to opening up the Nominations & Elections portion of the meeting.
We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this new virtual way of doing union business.
In Solidarity,
Amber Leonard
